Need a Hug?

I was taking a few shots of the derelict bungalow up the road, for this one I was focusing on the texture differences in the weathered components of the gate. It was just hanging on then, now it’s succumbed to the winds and collapsed.

Looking at it later, I thought the knot in the piece of the attempted repair wood looks like an eye, and perhaps the bolt and hinge make it feel like it has arms and it is embracing the gate for a comforting hug.

I looked up the word anthropomorphic, but decided it was too tricky to spell for attempting here.

A not-very-subtle reminder that I have shops, at
RedbubbleΒ andΒ Pixels,
where there are a selection of my images in all sorts of buying options
(Art, Canvas and Framed prints, and the popular greetings cards and notebooks)
It only takes a couple of small sales to keep the site ad-free, so do have a look if you have time. Thanks.

    1. The gate is in a heap now unfortunately, last storms got it. Probably wouldn’t have taken as much as a storm though, looking at it strongly would have done it.

  1. When I saw this as a thumbnail in my Reader I thought it was a bat – with a little bat face.😁 It’s wonderful – love the textures! And yes, I see something here. In addition to your huggy wood, I see a frog holding a cane horizontally. It’s the old piece of wood. Two eyes at the top corners. The metal crosspiece (a screw?) is the cane & it’s being held by the two frog hands (the circular metal whoosits). Adorable. I’m a big fan of pareidolia. But I think this frog thing was prompted by an old cartoon, “The Singing Frog.”
I hope you don’t mind that link – please delete this comment if you do. Anyway, Mr. Frog danced (and sang) with a cane.
Thank you for sharing this fascinating – and beautiful – image! πŸ₯°πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

          1. πŸ˜‚ LOL – I’ve been internetting since 2005 or so, am skidding perilously toward my 70th birthday. But somehow I missed Rickrolls. Thank you for mentioning it/them! πŸ€—
